GO cyclesport is a full service motorcycle business specializing in designing, building and repairing sportbikes. Michael Heltzer, the founder, developed the concept for GO after running an architectural product design business for the past 15 years. His stainless steel and titanium products regularly graced the covers of The New York Times, Architectural Digest, Metropolitan Home, and The Robb Report — to name a few. Heltzer, also the owner of Goose Island Boatyard, the largest full service power yacht facility in Chicago, has combined his experience in design, engineering, fabricating and repair to lay the groundwork for GO. To Heltzer, motorcycles are the perfect template for design, representing “pure form… balanced with absolute function”. The end result is what Heltzer and his staff refer to as “engineering elegance”.

This philosophy is clearly reflected in the GO showroom and service center. The 12,000 square foot facility is housed in a historic boatyard, under a dramatic bow truss roof, with the Chicago River and Horner Park as the backdrop. On display are over 50 of the finest international manufacturers of motorcycle parts, accessories and apparel, floating in space from stainless steel cables, frosted glass shelves and aluminum beaded chains. Nothing is in boxes or behind counters. To Heltzer, “What makes our products so special is their build quality. Therefore, it is critical that our customers be able to have the ability to see and touch them. This is something they cannot do over the Internet.”

In the center of the showroom, lined up in meticulous order, are Heltzer’s own collection of project bikes including a MV Agusta, several limited edition Ducatis, a Honda CBR600RR and other bikes. All are on custom perforated pedestals with ramps ready for a quick exit to the nearest track day or trip to the local store. The space is accented by a raised stainless steel and bamboo platform with Heltzer’s own furniture designs for GO’s unique interactive database. An additional feature of the space is a 20 foot by 16 foot movie screen for rolling race footage and special events.

The service center is totally accessible to the customer from the showroom through a glass and corrugated metal wall so that they can watch the building process and also inspect the lab-like environment. This is a byproduct of both having run successful businesses in the past which were known for quality beyond the industry norms. On any day the projects can range from tire changes to get a customers bike back on the road or track to full custom builds.

Ultimately, GO is a resource for the sportbike rider that demands perfection from every aspect of their sportbike.

GO’s long-term goal is simple... building heirloom bikes featuring “engineering elegance”.
